Kids Kayak - Introduction to Kayaking

Have fun learning the basics you need to know to paddle a kayak safely and effectively.

Gig Harbor Rent-A-Boat & Charters, LLC offers a youth introduction to kayaking program for kids ages 9-14.

Four hour sessions will run Monday through Friday, from 10 am to 2 pm. A minimum of 4 to a maximum of 6 students per class provides individual training and attention.

Our instructors are members of the United States Canoe Association and the Gig Harbor Canoe/Kayak Racing Team. The team competes regionally, nationally, internationally and ultimately at the Olympic level in the sport of canoe/kayak sprint racing. In 2007, five team members represented the United States in the Junior World Championships in the Czech Republic. The teams scheduled events in 2008 include trials in Oklahoma City; Pan American games in Montreal, Canada; and the Moscow Test Race.

The Introduction to Kayaking course is held inside of the harbor and introduces kayak safety, equipment, basic strokes, and maneuvers needed to maintain boat control. Students will be provided the opportunity to try (under direct supervision) a flat water racing boat used by the Gig Harbor Canoe/Kayak Racing Team. Gig Harbor Rent-A-Boat & Charters will provide all the kayak equipment.
